H&M Celebrates New Store in Harlem

Grand Opening of H&M Harlem

H&M celebrated the grand unveiling of its newly renovated store in Harlem with a burst of fashion and fun. The first 200 shoppers were given gift cards and H&M T-shirts. In addition, one lucky winner received an All-Access Fashion Pass, which included a personal style consultation from a H&M stylist.

To support the local community, the budget retailer partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem, and awarded the members early access to shop at the store before the public. H&M also donated gift cards valued between $10-$300. Read the rest of this entry »

Second Time Around for Designer Fashion

Second Time Around in New York City

Like a well-kept secret, consignment shops are full of hidden treasures in high fashion and offer affordable choices for your wardrobe. As consumers are becoming more thoughtful about their shopping choices, resale shops are more popular as the number of new customers has increased dramatically among the budget-conscious crowd.

During a recent shopping excursion to New York City, I discovered some of the hottest looks and labels at Second Time Around, a must-see shop in the fabulous neighborhood of SoHo.  The consignment store specializes in new and resale designer clothing for a fraction of the retail prices. Organized by size and style category, you can easily find your fashion essentials or a gorgeous vintage summer dress. Some of the brands that I lingered over included, Marc Jacobs, DVF, Liz Claiborne, Coach, Seven For All Mankind and Primp.

The store’s merchandise are consignment pieces which are brought in by sellers who donated their unwanted items. The beauty of a consignment store is that they will buy those pieces from you to sell to their customers at a deep discount. Typically, your items are priced at one-third of their retail value, and after it is sold, you will receive 35 to 50 of the sale price or store credit.

If you are interested in selling your items and buying your goods for a irresistible price, Second Time Around has store locations in several states, including New York, Massachusetts and Maryland. To consign items, visit  Second Time Around and set up an appointment to bring your pieces to the store. Now is the perfect time to clean out your closets and start making money while shopping for haute fashion!

Target’s New Billboard Totes Available Now

Anna Sui Tote C WilkinIn the spirit of reuse and recyle of materials, billboard ads in New York City will soon be turned into fashion statements. Target commissioned a group of artists, including Josh Goldstein and Michael Anderson, to create nine ads for display in Times Square, starting Labor Day weekend. Then in a twist of innovative design, the billboard ads will be taken down and transformed as a limited-edition tote bag on November 1. The NY 9 Handbag collection for Target will be created by designer Anna Sui, who also partnered with the retailer for their latest Designer Collaboration.

Made from individual pieces of the billboards, each unique bag will be a memento of NYC. Only 1,600 tote bags will be created, and will be constructed of 90% recycled flex bulletin vinyl. Sui’s signature touches, such as black enamel studs, add a polish to the bags.  The artists will use the existing images from the ads to create their own fashion project. The bags are $29.99, an affordable price point for an artistic version of upcyling, and are available now for pre-order on Target.com. The finished bags will ship in January 2010.  Choose your collage tote today before they are all sold out!
