Four years ago, the world was introduced to fashion designer Jason Wu. All eyes were on The First Lady Michelle Obama at the Presidential Inaugural Ball, and cameras were locked onto Wu’s custom white chiffon gown. At the Obama’s second inauguration this week, the fashion icon chose Wu as her muse again to wear at the Ball.
Wu watched a live stream of the Inaugural Ball with much anticipation, he said during an interview on TODAY with Savannah Guthrie. He had worked closely with the First Lady’s style team to achieve the right look and the right fit for the dress. However, several designers had also submitted their designs for Mrs. Obama’s consideration.
“We didn’t get any confirmation of who she was going with,” he said, “until she appeared at the Ball last night. We were so excited when we saw it!” The gorgeous ruby red gown with velvet details sparkled on the stage. It was an incredible experience, he said.
Michelle Obama’s choice has cemented his status as a rising star, and has helped made his dreams come true. As a designer, it’s been a “tremendous experience and continues to be,” he said. “It’s just amazing to realize that my work will be a part of American history.”

The First Lady Michelle Obama’s style is always on trend. Whether she is attending a fundraiser for the presidential campaign or making a public appearance to help fight childhood obesity, her look is truly covetable and more often than not, it is quite affordable. Recently, she showed up to support the Olympians during the Summer Games. I had to find her ladylike dresses, especially the dress she recently wore to the All England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon in London.
Thanks to SheFinds for providing the details of the pretty dress that the First Lady wore to cheer on the tennis star Serena Williams. The gingham skirt and heart print sleeveless bodice is from Tracy Reese, and the black parchment combo frock is available at tracyreese.com
First Lady Michelle Obama shows us how to maintain her fashion sense without overspending. Wearing the same dress from Merona for Target, she proves that style can be obtained at any price. You may remember seeing the Merona dress during a family vacation in 2009.
Recently, she joined Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, at the Joining Forces initiative at the Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach, VA. The First Lady co-founded the outreach program with Dr. Biden to support and honor America’s service members and their families. Whether she is speaking to homeless female veterans or helping to rebuild a children’s play area, First Lady Michelle Obama always look chic and stylish in the spotlight.
