Is the Gap CFDA Design Editions Too Limited?
I really wanted to write a review of the latest collection of Gap’s Design Editions. Even more so, I wanted to see the collection for myself, especially after all of the hype the retailer was spreading around to almost every fashion mag I read. However, I am unable to provide a review because the launch of the collection was only available in selected stores. Here’s what I don’t understand: The limited edition was designed to give everyday, non-celebrity fashionistas, like myself, the chance to own a piece of art from CFDA winners, such as Alexander Wang. But then the retailer limited their distribution to the flagships stores in the largest cities in the US, and completely bypassed the regulars who shop at the other numerous locations across the country.
Once I realized that none of the stores in Wisconsin were receiving shipments for the limited edition, I jumped online to Gap where I found the entire collection available. I selected my items and completed my order. Or so I thought. I didn’t receive a order confirmation email from Gap, so I contacted their customer service for assistance. To my disappointment, my order was never processed, possibly due to the extreme traffic on the site the day of the launch. When I checked back on the site, my favorite item from the line, the cream colored moto jacket designed by Wang, was no longer available. My only hope now is find the jacket listed on eBay for under $200!
Were you one of the lucky ones who scored your fav items from the current Gap Design Editions, or are you shopping on eBay to find the sold-out items? Send me your thoughts, are you disappointed that Gap didn’t include your store on their distribution list?

Fashion Designers for Gap
Gap and the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund are collaborating again to create a limited edition to freshen your spring apparel. Previous Gap Design Editions have featured menswear looks from designers, such as Band of Outsiders. Lucky for us, the new line takes a different twist on a Gap classic, the khaki. The 2008 CFDA/Vogue winner Alexander Wang, and finalists Albertus Swanepoel, and Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai of the Gossip Girl fav, Vena Cava, will create casual pieces ranging from stylish jackets to dresses and cute hats.

Vena Cava for Gap Design Editions
For each piece the designers infuse their creative spirit, including the cool dresses from Vena Cava and the trench coats and the motorcycle jackets from Wang, while keeping Gap’s casual ease. Wang’s runway shows of citygal looks have been on my radar for awhile, but his prices are not in my budget. I am looking forward to checking out his take on an iconic look, and with prices starting at $39.50, these will be going fast. Look for the Gap Design Editions to be available in Gap stores and at Gap.com starting June 16th.
